Mercury Retrograde, Moving to a Leo New Moon

Dear Friends,

We’re past the Last Quarter phase. Mercury is newly retrograde in Leo until August 11, 2025, and Saturn stationed retrograde last week.

Today, the Moon is waning in Taurus, moving toward the upcoming powerful and transformative Leo New Moon on July 24, 2025, ushering in a passionate renewal and resurrection.

With the recent Full Moon in Capricorn (on July 10, a historic, milestone lunation), we’re breaking generational patterns, releasing ancient emotional baggage, and closing old chapters as we step over a threshold into a new era.

Saturn Retrograde in Aries

Saturn stationed retrograde in Aries on July 13, shortly after the Full Moon in Capricorn (its home sign). We’re feeling the weight of time, and there is none to waste.

There’s a need for self-discipline as we refocus energy, find inner will, strength, resilience, and self-mastery on the road to success.

We’re in the waning cycle of the Moon, a time of release. Learn your lessons, but release the past and (emotional, mental, physical, psychological) baggage that prevents your progress. Then you can make progress and strengthen foundations for the future you’re building.

For the spiritual aspirant, Amma spoke extensively about the need to eliminate the shadripus, a.k.a. six enemies — Kama (Desire/Lust), Krodha (Anger), Lobha (Greed), Mada (Ego/Pride), Moha (Attachment/Delusion), and Matsarya (Jealousy/Envy) — that cause suffering and hinder our spiritual progress.

Saturn speaks of both our Karma (actions) and our Dharma (responsibility, duty). It speaks of our mortality, old age, maturity, mastery, discipline, and teaches life lessons. Saturn’s retrograde station in Aries suggests a need for deep, fundamental realignment with our dharma (responsibilities, duties, spiritual path, and life goals) and integrating karmic lessons, so we don’t repeat them.

Meanwhile, Mercury is newly retrograde in Leo, in its storm phase, when information tends to surface.

Pay attention to conversations and information you’re having now. We’re learning the art of communication, the language of love, and the key to this retrograde requires heart-to-heart (rather than egocentric) communication.

We’re being drawn on an introspective journey of reviewing territory and conversations unfolding since June 30 — allowing us to get to the heart of a matter.

Mercury is the planet of communication, information, transportation, the mind, and duality. Its retrograde phases are commonly associated with delays, miscommunication, or breakdowns in equipment, etc. Still, we needn’t anticipate the worst. This is an invitation to slow down, be present, be mindful, double-check information, communication, review, and renegotiate arrangements.

Leo rules the heart, the ego, the “here and now,” spontaneity, creativity, sexuality, the inner child, true love, romance, courage, true strength (of the heart—not the body-mind), and self-confidence, among other things. These themes are in focus and being illuminated further as the Sun enters Leo on July 22.

Also, Uranus is newly in Gemini (Mercury’s sign), encouraging us to be curious and open-minded.

As Mercury backtracks, there could be second chances, reconnections, a chance to find closure, and renewed understanding. Once Mercury stations direct on August 11 and until August 25, we will recover this territory for the third time, integrating and applying what we’ve learned as we move ahead.

At best, this retrograde is an opportunity to drop the ego, masks, reach a deeper understanding of recent events, oneself, the heart, in relationships, financial and creative matters, and find creative, loving solutions and ways forward.
